The Rhône-Alpes region is a former region that includes 8 departments, the main ones being Ardèche, Loire, Rhône and Savoie. It is also one of the most populated regions in France, with a population of nearly six and a half million in 2014. Due to its surface area, the Rhône-Alpes has a great diversity of territories: plains, plateaus and mountains. The region is particularly renowned for its many vineyards, certainly less prestigious than those of the Bordeaux region, and also for its culinary specialities.
What to do in Rhone Alpes
If you decide to spend your camping holidays in Rhône-Alpes (Ardeche and Drome campsites), in one of our many campsites in France, a number of sites will be worth visiting. For example, once in the Ain, you can visit the Brou building, which was classified as a "favourite monument of the French" in 2014. Next to it you can of course visit the very famous monastery of Brou. This 16th century Gothic masterpiece, located one hour from Lyon, attracts a large number of visitors every year. In Ardèche, in addition to being able to practice many outdoor sports (mountain biking, hiking, canoeing, etc.) it will be possible for you to visit the Pont-d'Arc cave, which is the perfect replica of the famous Chauvet cave, where some 425 animals were painted by our distant ancestors. During your journey through the Rhône-Alpes you can also go to the Drôme and more precisely to the Palais du Facteur Cheval. It is the work of a postman in a rural area who, according to him, was the ideal palace, his work took 33 years to be completed and is now one of the most seen in the region, a sure favorite! Another little piece of paradise will also be waiting for you near Grenoble, the Domaine de Vizille. Only a few kilometres from Grenoble lies a magnificent place that is still unknown to the public. It is nevertheless an important place in our history since it is obviously the place where the Estates General of the Dauphiné, precursors of the French Revolution, were held. Very logically, this domain has been home to the Museum of the Revolution for nearly thirty years. Finally, don't forget to stop by Haute-Savoie to admire the grandeur of Château de Menthon. Located at the top of a solitary rock, it has been inhabited for almost a thousand years by the same family: the Menthon family. This allows tourists to visit the 105 rooms of the castle, which inspired a large number of artists, starting with Walt Disney. We look forward to seeing you at our campsites in the Rhône-Alpes, where you will discover a large number of fantastic places and have an unforgettable stay, see you soon!
