"Did you know?"

Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer is the 3rd largest municipality in mainland France. With 30 km of beaches, you won’t be short of spots to choose from. And will be free to take up as much space as you like!

Camargue holiday bucket list

20,000 hectares of nature reserve and protected areas. The Camargue has preserved its treasures beautifully. Even the little white houses in town will seduce you with their sun-dappled reflections.

We’ve put together a list of the top 4 holiday-musts for the best holiday memories:

  1. The sea wall. On the right, the sea; on the left, the marshes. The sea wall was built in 1859, and has been protecting the Rhone delta from the power of the sea ever since. This 12-km long structure leads to the 18-metre-high Gacholle lighthouse.
  2. Les Deux Saintes church roof. A truly unique experience. Climb the 53 steps of the spiral staircase at the side of the church to the roof and its walkway – just like a real fortress.
  3. Pont de Gau Ornithological Park. Silence is golden if you want to experience a magical encounter. The ornithological park’s towers and observatories will help you keep a low profile. The holy grail? The parade of pink flamingos! Keep your eyes and ears peeled, too, for the flight of heron colonies, the cry of seagulls, the elegant glide of the ibis... There are an incredible 200 species to be spotted in the park!
  4. Breathtaking sunsets. Everyone has their favourite place to watch the sun go down. For some, it’s the town’s west beach (for romantic vibes). For others, it’s the Camargue Cross (the popular choice).
